Outburst UK has been given the green light to begin planning for an All Day Arts and Cultural Day after receiving a grant from The Big Lottery Fund.  

Andrew Prince of Outburst UK, said:

"We are delighted to have been able to see this vision come to fruition. The grant will enable us to completely fund an Arts and Cultural Day to be held in LGBT History Month in February 2010 and to bring to the community a day of involvement, participation and sharing. I acknowledge and appreciate the support given to us by many organisations and individuals."

The project will help us to develop a stronger community by providing a safe and supportive environment and by sharing stories and experiences of a wide range of individuals.  From our experiences, stronger communities are developed by acknowledging that we span various communities who share many similarities and experiences even if we come from different backgrounds.

Both black people and gay people have a great deal to learn from each other and that together, we can challenge inequalities in our society and beyond.

The day will also increase an understanding of the black LGBT Arts and Culture to the community itself and to the wider community.

The project is due to start during the month of October 2009 and scheduled for completion by June 2010.

The day will be led by established LGBT artists, writers and other cultural producers and will be open to anyone interested in experiencing black LGBT arts and culture.
