Inaugural pride festival celebrating diversity and the stunning natural environment of Torbay, UK’s premiere seaside resort.
Pride Torbay will take the form of a four day festival, combining a variety of events raising money for both Rowcroft Hospice and the Eddystone Trust. Events will include a boat trip, themed club nights, a pool party, a beach picnic with live musical entertainment, community stalls, an open-air cinema screening and a cabaret street party.
The full programme will be announced on www.pridetorbay.org on Tuesday 5th May. Proceeds from the barbeque are all going to the pride charities - which are a local hospice and the local sexual health charity.
The following fundraising events are taking place in the lead up to Pride Torbay, with more to be added:
Thurs 30th April Pride Not Prejudice “P” Party at Play
Friday 22nd May Hillbilly Hoedown Barn Dance at the Spanish Barn
Saturday 23rd May Candyfloss Fundraiser
Thurs 18th June Remix Pride Fundraiser at Bohemia starring Dave Lynn
End of June The Big Pride Torbay boat trip!
A huge charity raffle is also just about to launch with some fantastic prizes. Tickets will be available from gay venues across the Bay very soon.
“I get sick of listening to straight people complain about, "Well, hey, we don't have a heterosexual-pride day, why do you need a gay-pride day?" I remember when I was a kid I'd always ask my mom: "Why don't we have a Kid's Day? We have a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, but why don't we have a Kid's Day?" My mom would always say, "Every day is Kid's Day." To all those heterosexuals that bitch about gay pride, I say the same thing: Every day is heterosexual-pride day! Can't you people enjoy your banquet and not piss on those of us enjoying our crumbs over here in the corner?” Rob Nash
10 REASONS WHY TORBAY NEEDS A GAY PRIDE - It’s a great community event that will bring people together to celebrate our diversity.
- It sends a positive message about the gay community in Torbay to the wider world.
- It shows people who are struggling with their sexuality and still in the closet that not only is it okay to be who they are, but also a lot of fun too.
- It will raise valuable funds for two truly worthwhile local charitie.
- It is a great opportunity to encourage gay visitors to come discover our beautiful Bay and join us in the celebrations.
- It will show that Torbay is a gay-friendly resort not only during the pride festival, but throughout the rest of the year as well.
- Gay and gay-friendly businesses will do well during what is a particularly difficult financial year.
- We get to party like only we know how.
- Incredibly we don’t already have one.
- Did we mention the parties?!?
